Quan-Sheng Shu's Story

Quan-Sheng Shu is a renowned expert in cryogenics and superconductivity, he has published over 100 papers as first author, authored 5 influential books, and secured plentiful research grants on these subjects. All these achievements make him a trusted authority in his field. He has conducted many scientific and technical projects at prestigious institutions such as Fermilab, SSC Lab, Cornell University, DESY, and Zhejiang University.

 

His notable achievements include (not exclusive):

  • Formulating the Enhanced Black Hole Theory for multilayer insulation (MLI) with cracks/slots at Fermilab.

  • Achieving the highest accelerating fields (Eacc) in SRF cavities at Cornell University in 1990.

  • Developing the world’s first 6-m prototype of the HTS Maglev Cryo-pipe at AMAC for NASA KFC.

  • Developing many cryogenic equipment for superconducting magnets at SSCL.

Before 1983, Shu taught cryogenics and conducted researches at Zhejiang University. He also served as a Director on the Cryogenic Engineering Conference board, Secretary of the A1 Committee (Cryo-physics & Cryo-engineering) of the International Institute of Refrigeration, and the Chief Editor of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering Vol. 45, 1999.
